ABOARD THE "LOVE TRAIN" FOR VALENTINE'S DAY WITH A PROGRAM
OF SHORTS ABOUT - LOVE!

HOLLYWOOD - The American Cinematheque presents THE LOVE TRAIN: VALENTINE'S
DAY SHORT FILMS on Wednesday, February 14, 2001 at 7:30 PM. Jump aboard and
catch the express to films expressing several definitions of "love". Bring
someone you already love (or at least like!) or find someone here to love
(or at least lust after!). Your ticket also buys you a chance to win a prize
package which includes a dinner for two at Hollywood's Café Des Artistes and
a gift pack for that romantic evening. Discussion following the screening
with filmmakers Danny Greenfield ("Allerd Fishbein's in Love"); Amie Stier
("Herb"); A.J. Schnack ("Might As Well Be Swing"); Elyse Couvillion
("Sweet"); Shawn Schepps & Jason Wolk ("The Closet") and Oliver Dieckmann
("Ordinary Love").
All screenings take place in the newly renovated Lloyd E. Rigler Theatre at
the historic Egyptian Theatre (6712 Hollywood Boulevard between Highland and
Las Palmas) in Hollywood.
Danny Greenfield's "Allerd Fishbein's in Love" (20 min.) Lack of
coordination, Nausea, Bar Mitzvahs. This comedy about a 13-year-old boy's
first crush during a family vacation in the Catskills circa the 1980's won
the Graduate Division Award at the 2000 Hamptons International Film Festival
and was a finalist for the IFC 2000 Short Film Award. Stars John Daley
("Freaks & Geeks") L.A. Premiere! Amie Steir's "Herb" (12 min.) A girl
recounts her devotion to "that" rock & roll boy that your mother warned you
about. Herb is into Parties, Girls, Drugs. and his ambition to be a
Playgirl centerfold. With Amanda Peet (WHIPPED) as "The Other Woman." A.J.
Schnack's "Might As Well Be Swing" (24 min.) Two Los Angeles couples head
to Joshua Tree for a little partner-swapping. but some people are more
enthusiastic than others. Sundance Selection 2001! Dean Kapsalis's Jigsaw
Venus (10:30 min.) This beautifully nuanced film, slapstick, yet so moving,
says much about love and longing without a word of
dialogue. Warning! Could cause the toughest of men to shed tears. Elyse
Couvillion's "Sweet" (4:30 min.) Toured with the Resfest program and a
Sundance 2001 selection! A brief, sensual film about reality not matching
our brave, romantic daydreams. A young man and woman awaken in separate
beds, each dreaming of the other. Throughout the day they have sensual
daydream about each other. They rush home and meet in the lobby of their
apartment building. Be careful what you wish for. Gorgeously shot by Academy
nominated cinematographer Allen Daviau. (E.T., THE COLOR PURPLE, AVALON)
Shawn Schepps "The Closet" (9 min.) Two inept burglers get more than they
were looking for in this, dark, frantic comedy. An off-beat tale of wrong
place, wrong tome and philosophical consequences is farcical, dangerous and
sensitive. Oliver Dieckmann's "Ordinary Love" ("Geliebter Alltag") (13 min.,
Germany) Winner:Best Short Film, AFI/2000. Anything but ordinary, this
mature film from a young German director shows one man's way out of the
doldrums of a marriage taken for granted. On his 7th wedding anniversary
this policeman has to solve a murder case (a man who is suspected of
murdering his wife) and marital problems.
