TO NICOLAS CAGE RESCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER 28th
AT THE BEVERLY HILTON HOTEL;
TNT TO AIR TRIBUTE IN 2002

Hollywood – The American Cinematheque’s 16th annual benefit gala honoring Nicolas Cage has been rescheduled for Sunday, October 28, 2001. Event co-chairs are Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Dolgen and Gerry Harrington. Samuel L. Jackson will host the Cinematheque Tribute and Award presentation at the Beverly Hilton Hotel’s International Ballroom in Beverly Hills.
Turner Entertainment Television will air the American Cinematheque Tribute to Nicolas Cage in 2002. (The event was re-scheduled from Sept. 22nd.)Confirmation is still pending on the originally scheduled show participants availability. Names will be announced as they are confirmed. Pre-taped congratulatory comments from: Francis Ford Coppola, Spike Jonze, Martin Short, John Travolta, John Woo, Meryl Streep and Bridget Fonda will be included in the show.
The award show is produced by Robert Dalrymple and Paul Flattery, who are also executive producers of the television show. Sandy Shapiro is executive producer for Turner Network Television (TNT).Cage was the unanimous choice of the Cinematheque Board of Directors selection committee, which since 1986, has annually honored an extraordinary artist (actor, producer, director or writer) in the entertainment industry, who is fully engaged in his or her work and is committed to making a significant contribution to the art of the motion picture.
Nicolas Cage received an Academy Award for his in the MGM drama LEAVING LAS VEGAS, directed by Mike Figgis; as well as a Golden Globe, and Best Actor awards from the New York Film Critics Circle, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, the Chicago Film Critics and the National Board of Review.
Named Showest’s Star of the Decade in 2001, Cage canbe seen in Universal’s CAPTAIN CORRELLI’S MANDOLIN, co-starring Penelope Cruz and directed by John Madden, as well as John Woo’s World War II feature WINDTALKERS, slated for release this fall. Cage recently completed production on Columbia Pictures’ ADAPTATION, written by Charlie Kauffman, directed by Spike Jonze and co-starring Meryl Streep. ADAPTATION will be released in 2002. Now working behind the camera as well, in 2000 he produced the critically-acclaimed SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE for which Willem Dafoe was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award.
In 2000, Cage starred in Jerry Bruckheimer’s remake of GONE IN SIXTY SECONDS opposite Angelina Jolie and Giovanni Ribisi, and THE FAMILY MAN, co-starring Tea Leoni and directed by Brett Ratner. In 1999, Cage starred in Columbia-TriStar’s EIGHT MILLIMETER, directed by Joel Schumacher, which screened at the Berlin Film Festival; as well as Paramount’s BRINGING OUT THE DEAD, directed by Martin Scorsese.
In 1998, Cage starred in Brian De Palma’s SNAKE EYES for Paramount Pictures as well as Warner Bros. CITY OF ANGELS, opposite Meg Ryan, directed by Brad Silberling. In 1997, Cage co-starred with John Travolta in the critically acclaimed John Woo action thriller FACE/OFF, as well as CON-AIR, which reunited him with producer Jerry Bruckheimer and starred John Cusack and John Malkovich. He starred opposite Sean Connery and Ed Harris in the 1996 box-office hit THE ROCK for Hollywood Pictures and in August, 1996, Cage was honored by the Montreal World Film Festival with their prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.
He starred in Barbet Schroeder’s 1995 thriller KISS OF DEATH, and re-teamed with director Andrew Bregman in 1994 for IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU which co-starred Bridget Fonda and Rosie Perez, and starred opposite Shirley MacLaine in TriStar’s hit film GUARDING TESS, and in Propaganda’s highly acclaimed film noir RED ROCK WEST (1992). Cage also received a Golden Globe nomination for his role in 1992’s romantic comedy HONEYMOON IN VEGAS, directed by Andrew Bergman for Castlerock with Sarah Jessica Parker and James Caan. David Lynch’s WILD AT HEART, starring Cage and Laura Dern, won the Palme d’Or at the 1990 Cannes Film Festival.
Cage’s portrayal of a tormented Vietnam vet in BIRDY (1984) first established him as a serious actor. Directed by Alan Parker, BIRDY won the jury prize at Cannes. Cage then received a Golden Globe nomination as Best Actor in 1987 for his role as Cher’s lover in MOONSTRUCK. He made his feature film debut in FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH in 1982.
His other film credits include VALLEY GIRL, COTTON CLUB, RACING WITH THE MOON, THE BOY IN BLUE, PEGGY SUE GOT MARRIED, RAISING ARIZONA, VAMPIRE’S KISS and FIRE BIRDS.

Twelve hundred entertainment industry notables are expected to attend the Tribute. This annual event is the American Cinematheque’s largest benefit, providing funds for the non-profit film exhibition organization’s
programs throughout the year and operation of the historic landmark Egyptian Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard.
